B-TOWN BIZ: ‘Wines!’ will Put a Cork in it, to Close by End of April

Charles R. Tyson, owner of Burien business ‘Wines!’ located on the corner of 6th SW and SW 152nd Street, told The B-Town Blog Friday morning (April 5) that they have decided to put a cork in it and close the shop by the end of April.

“It has been a joy getting to know the people of Burien inasmuch as neighboring Tukwila has been my home since 1948 and Diane’s since our marriage,” Tyson said. “Unfortunately, health issues make it impractical to continue operation and we will retire with the hope of spending as much time as practical in Arizona.”

Tyson added:

We offer a challenge to all other businesses involved in retail wine sales to beat our prices on our remaining 500 bottles during this event. Store hours will be 3:00 to 7:00 every day of the week during April until the inventory is gone.

Together with my wife Diane, a unique selection of Pacific Northwest wines has been assembled over the past year concentrating on those of limited production and award winners. Also available are wines from around the World.

“Going Out of Business” banners will go up today, Friday April 5th. Besides wines, Libbey stemware, fixtures, and other items will be sold off at rock bottom prices.

Please remember our hours will be 3:00 to 7:00 every day remaining in April until the shop is bare.

Thank you Burien!

Wines! is located at 601 SW 152nd Street, Ste. B in Burien (across from Subway/Burien Town Square).

Wine specialty shop… Tough business. Good luck in Arizona. Very small location. It will be interesting to see what moves in.

Probably nothing… have you seen all the vacant store fronts in Burien? Sad.

While I am sad to see any biz fail, I think in this case, little to no research was done. Does it make sense to open a wine shop in the same block where one, Vino Bello, is already well-established? You’ve got to know your stock, display it well, and put yourself where you stand a snowballs chance of success. IMO, these were and are the illnesses for this shop. So, while it is never good to see a biz go away, you folk who own bizzes really need to be responsible for good research.
