The City of Burien planted a tree in Shorewood Park for Arbor Day, as well as to honor longtime volunteer Fred Henzi on Wednesday, April 10.

Parks Director Michael Lafreniere read a proclamation from the City Council declaring April 10, 2013, as Arbor Day in Burien, recognizing that trees are a source of joy and spiritual renewal, and urging all citizens to:

“…support efforts to protect Burien’s trees and woodlands, and to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.”

Shorewood on the Sound volunteers also took part in the ceremony, taking turns shoveling and packing dirt around the newly planted Shore Pine.

Participants took a moment to remember Henzi, who recently passed away. His wife Joan and daughter Veronica helped plant the tree.
