Want to learn the basics about tea? Or for those of you already immersed in the world of tea, do you have a friend or relative who would benefit from a class for novices?
Phoenix Tea, located in Olde Burien, will be holding a ‘Tea 101’ class this Sunday:

This Sunday, April 21st, at 10 a.m. Phoenix Tea will present an introductory class on tea. The two hour class will introduce the major categories of tea, discuss how they are grown and processed, and demonstrate different brewing techniques. Students will also be able to taste several different teas as they are brewed and discussed. The class will be fairly informal but informative, with plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions.
“Don’t know the difference between an Assam and an oolong? Looking to expand your beverage knowledge and choices? This Sunday, April 21st, at 10:00am Phoenix Tea will present “Tea 101,” a two-hour class designed for novice tea drinkers and people who just want to learn a little more about the fascinating world of the Camellia sinensis plant, and the wide variety of teas that it produces. Brett Boynton, Co-owner of Phoenix Tea, former manager of The Teacup in Queen Anne, and Black Dragon Tea Bar blogger, will be the instructor for the class.
Cost is $15 per person, and attendees will get 10% off any tea purchased in the store the day of the class. This is a participatory class, with demonstrations of brewing techniques and tastings of all of the teas prepared during the class. Cost for each person is $15, payable in advance or at the event.
