An often-overlooked cabin sits quietly at the end of 164th Place SW in Burien’s Three Tree Point neighborhood, and the non-profit organization behind it – the Three Tree Point Youth Association (TTPYA) – is seeking donations for its upkeep.

The cabin is used mostly by local scout troops, and organizers are seeking money to help keep it in good condition for kids to use.

Here’s a letter recently sent out to area residents (download it as a PDF here):

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

The Three Tree Point Youth Association (TTPYA) is asking for your support for the Youth Cabin. This rustic cabin and its forested grounds are used by youth, families and neighborhood scouting groups for educational and recreation purposes.

The usage of the cabin is way up! It has been booked continuously all year with two to three days per week by various Cub Groups, as well as Girl and Boy Scouts.

We are suggesting a donation of $80 per family. Of course, any amount that you feel appropriate is welcome! The funds are used to pay for insurance, electricity and county surface water assessments, with the remainder used for maintenance and repair. At this time our biggest concern is the cabin foundation. The peer blocks used in the initial construction have been reworked over the years as the hillside continues to shift. We would like to have the foundation professionally evaluated to determine the cost of repair. If you or someone you know has experience in this area please give me a call.

Please send your tax deductible donation to:

16415 29th Place SW
Burien, WA 98166

The Three Tree Point Youth Association is registered with the State of Washington as a non-profit corporation.

The Association encourages all the supporting families to make use of the cabin property. It’s a great place for scout meetings, birthday parties, Board retreats and picnics.

Email Peter at [email protected] to schedule your dates.

Thanks again for your continued support, we are blessed to have this cabin as a part of our neighborhood! If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (206) 422-6700.

Scott Morrison
Vice President, Three Tree Point Youth Association
