LETTER: ‘I’m frustrated by the comments on the proposed DUI laws’ by DUI Joe
[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff:]
I’m frustrated by the comments on the proposed DUI laws quoted by Joe Breidenbach (read the story here), who claims to be known widely as “DUI Joe.” Mr. Breidenbach obviously has an ulterior motive to his concerns regarding the proposed laws, which he failed to mention. ”DUI Joe” stands to lose a considerable amount of money if the tougher laws are implemented. The laws will make it tougher for him to win cases for his clients. There is simply no other merit to his comments.
I get it…those of us who work are working to make money. He’s no different. However, his claim that the laws are too tough and do not match far worse crimes (murder ,etc.) is just plain silly. This isn’t a comparison. Drinking is accepted as a legal thing to do as long as you’re over 21 and do not break the law. The problem is…it’s also much easier for anyone to have one too many and get in a car, go out and kill someone. Maybe the “numbers” don’t support it but the average amount of people who drink is far higher than the amount of people who brandish guns. The law of averages will catch up.
The current laws simply are not working. We have got to do something more regardless of what people like “DUI Joe” believe.
