Here’s how YOU can ‘GiveBIG’ to help local charities on Wednesday, May 15

The Seattle Foundation’s ‘GiveBIG’ is a one-day, online charitable giving event – set for Wednesday, May 15 – to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.

Each credit card donation* made to the more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations profiled on The Seattle Foundation’s website (including many from the Burien area; see a relevant list here) between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time) on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, will receive a prorated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day.

* They will “stretch” all donations up to $25,000 per donor, per organization.

Throughout GiveBIG, donors will be chosen at random from all donations made up to the time of the drawing. The winner will have an additional $1,000 and a round-trip airline ticket, courtesy of Alaska Airlines, given in their name to the same nonprofit that received their donation. The winner will also receive a $100 gift card, courtesy of lead sponsor Starbucks.

  1. Thank you to the blog for speaking of this. The Highline Historical Society is one of the non-profits hoping that our members and supporters will make a donation to us through the GiveBIG site next Wednesday. Last year we received several thousand dollars of matching funds through their “stretch” pool, providing a partial match to our own donors. This is a wonderful service The Seattle Foundation performs each year. I hope everyone remembers and supports their favorite non-profit.

Thanks to the Blog for helping get the word out.

Please consider Highline Medical Center Foundation as a way to help support our local hospital.

Burien is fortunate to have the Highline Medical Center, a not-for-profit hospital and health care system that does NOT receive a tax assessment (unlike Valley Medical). Remember that in addition to education, our community investment in quality local health care is an important aspect of long term success for all of us.

You can donate to Hospitality House through the Seattle FOundation website. You can also support HH by shopping at Vino Bello today. Today, Vino Bello will be donating to Hospitality House. Hospitality House is a 9-bed shelter located in Burien that provides culturally-sensitive, safe, transitional shelter for single homeless women. When you stop in and make a cash donation of $20 or more, we’ll buy you a glass of wine. Help us make a difference won’t you?
