Jasmyn Tully accepts an award from King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office is reporting that Kolby Clark, 19, was sentenced Friday afternoon (May 31) to 18 years in prison for the March 2012 stabbing death of Jasmyn Tully, 17, in Tukwila.

Clark pleaded guilty in March as charged to Murder in the Second Degree. Clark, who was just 17 at the time of the murder, was charged as an adult under Washington State’s automatic adult jurisdiction law.

The sentence range, which included a deadly weapon enhancement, was 12 to 20 years in prison.

Here’s a statement posted on Facebook by her Father, Stephen:

The young man who committed this terrible act, Kolby Clark, pled guilty last month. His reason for killing her was that he simply felt like killing someone. He will be sentenced this Thursday, May 21st. He could receive a sentence as low as 10 years if his attorney can persuade the judge that his hard life as a child caused him to do this. The prosecutor is asking for a total of 16 years- 14 for the murder and 2 for the use of a deadly weapon while committing the crime. The judge has final say in sentencing. Please send an email asking for a longer sentence, something in the 18 to 25 range. You can make a difference. You don’t have to have known Jasmyn personally to write- anyone can. we posted all the email information on Jasmyns’ Memorial site a month ago. We need more letters. You can say whatever you wish and make it as long or as short as you like. Address them to the Honorable Lori Smith and send the to this email address : karen.kunde@kingcounty.gov Please include both Jasmyn’s name and that of Kolby Clark. The longer he is jail means he cannot murder someone elses’ child simply because he felt like killing someone. These have to be in by this Wednesday, so please, take a minute to send something. Ask anyone you know if they would help also. Thank you so much. I will be eternally grateful to everyone for helping

As we previously reported, Tully was murdered in her sleep by Clark on March 17, 2012 in Tukwila, where she was spending the night with a friend (read our coverage of that here).

Jasmyn had attended Burien’s Highline High School, and was most recently a student at South Seattle Community College.

An online fundraiser is still being held for her Father, who struggled with homelessness, often having to resort to sleeping in his truck. You can donate online here.
