92nd Annual Independence Day Parade coming to Burien July 4th!
The City of Burien and the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the 92nd Annual Burien Independence Day Parade on Thursday, July 4, 2013!
The Burien Independence Day Parade has gained a reputation as one of the most enjoyable and spirited community parades in the region.
“Community pride will shine with marching bands, energetic dance teams, elaborate floats and vintage autos!” reads an announcement. “Local community members will recognize familiar faces among the many organizations and elected representatives that participate.”
The parade is set against the charming backdrop of Downtown Burien, which features a diverse mix of business, retail and restaurants, along with the central landmarks of Burien Town Square and City Hall. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of this longstanding Burien tradition.
This year, the Grand Marshals of the Burien Independence Day Parade are Donna DiFiore and Michael Noakes, co-recipients of the Burien Citizen of the Year award. Donna has been a dedicated member of the Burien Arts Commission and a major supporter of several Burien projects, including the Mural Project, Banner Project, and Arts-a-Glow, among many others. Michael was instrumental in crafting solutions for updating Burien’s Shoreline Master Program, based on countless hours of research, negotiation, and technical writing.
The parade begins at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Ambaum Blvd. SW and SW 149th St. The route will head south on Ambaum, east on SW 153rd, north on 2nd Ave. SW, then west on SW 152nd. Sponsors of the Burien Independence Day Parade so far include the Burien/White Center Rotary Club, Highline Amateur Radio Club, CleanScapes, and Republic Services. Partners for this event are the City of Burien and the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce.
