A final cause of death is still pending, but The Seattle Times reports that he may have ingested a bad “drug cocktail” of some sort.
Patrick, 21, recently graduated from Washington State University, and he grew up in Des Moines.
Here’s a letter sent out to families from Kennedy Principal Mike Prato:
It is with great sadness that the Kennedy Catholic Family mourns the tragic loss of Patrick Witowski, Class of 2009. Patrick recently graduated from Washington State University. At Kennedy Catholic, he was a talented football player and active in leadership and service programs. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and former classmates. I have spoken to his parents, Paul and Tracy, who have asked that we pray for the repose of the soul of their dear son Patrick and for all of those he touched with such great energy. We are awaiting information about services for Patrick and will post those on our Facebook page when available.
A link to the news story about Patrick follows. When school resumes in the fall, we will have a conversation with the student body about the nature of his death and I encourage you to do the same.
I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being this summer.
Mike Prato, Principal
