HeatherScottSincic1Meet Heather Scott Sincic, one of Burien’s newest business owners.

This bubbly lady is sure to entertain those in her chair with her vibrant personality and tales of a career in the theatrical world. While she’s at it she will give you a great haircut, worthy of stage or screen.

She is currently the assistant Hair and Make-up artist at Seattle’s Fifth Ave. Theatre, but as she says:

“I do love to do men’s haircuts and have become very good at all the period styling. Also, I have worked as a Barber, and I love to make men feel good about their appearance.”

Now Heather has hung her shingle out at “The Barber Shop,” located on SW 153rd in Burien – a longtime institution whose former owners had recently retired after over 40 years of barbering in Burien.

How she came to own this bustling shop and be joined by barber Danny Chung is an interesting story, filled with serendipity.

Heather says it best in her own inimitable style. Read on and go see Heather or Danny for a great deal on a sharp cut: print this coupon to save $3.00 while you’re at it:

“About April 20th I was having dinner with my best friend and her boyfriend. During the course of dinner and conversation I complimented him on his fresh haircut. He replied, ‘yea, it’s probably my last one.’

I asked why and he said his Barber was retiring.

That’s when my best friend said, ‘Heather, you have always loved barbering and you would be great at running a Barber Shop.’

I thought about this and said I would look into the situation.

So, I stopped by the shop one day and met Bob Sheen and John Perry, the well-loved barbers who have cut hair in Burien for 45 and 48 years, and were both retiring. I walked in when they were giving one another their last haircuts and couldn’t believe the serendipity of my timing.

After an hour or so I left, thought about it for a day and went back for another visit.

By April 29th I was sold. I cleaned, painted and was open by May 6th. On the way to work that day I felt overwhelmed with the responsibility of being a business owner, looked up at the sky and said to the air, or universe, for us hippies, ‘I think I need help!’ I opened at 10:00 am and 7 haircuts later by 12:30 p.m. a man walked in and said with an accent, I thought, ‘looking for a haircut,’ but it turned out he was looking for a place to cut hair!

Two more clients came in so I said ‘ok, let’s see what you can do.’ He, (Danny) did a beautiful haircut! So, since he came equipped with his tools, license, and insurance, he has been there ever since, and is now my right hand man.

So, in short or long, The Barber Shop is still in business!

My goal for the integrity of the shop is to provide a place for men, a place where the Sports channel is always on, car mags are abundant, the paper is always current and if you have time, a chess board is available. I love to hear the boys kibitz about their cars, work, sports, and life. I love to make a fuss of men and send them home to their families feeling clean and appreciated. I hope to maintain an atmosphere of the “old school” Barber Shop. Of course kids are welcome and I am happy to cut and style women’s hair, but you will never find a perm rod in my shop!

I also have a lot of wall space so I hope to make a place for rotating artwork to be seen and purchased if the art is available and someone likes the work. That will have to be between the artist and client, I just hope to make the availability happen.”

“So, if you are looking for a place to get a great hair cut, give us a try!” she added, “don’t forget your coupon and receive $3 bucks off your first cut. Hope to see you in The Barber Shop!”
