Erin Swain, 16, from Burien, just returned from two weeks in Japan playing soccer and providing clinics and camps for Japanese students and military families.
Erin is a goalkeeper for GU17 PacNW Soccer Club (Renton) and also plays for Seattle Christian Schools – the 1A State Finalists from 2012 when Erin was named all-state goalkeeper.
The group she traveled with consisted of high school and college students organized through Seahorse Ministries, a division of Missionary Athletes International from Los Angeles. The team went to three cities including Iwata, Iwakuni and Osaka playing against local, high school and college teams. A highlight was three days spent on a Marine Corp base in Southern Japan holding soccer clinics for children of the active duty military personnel.
Erin said she “loved Japan – the warm and welcoming Japanese people, the beautiful countryside and especially the chance to play against very technical and skilled soccer players.”
