The Burien City Council unanimously approved at Monday night’s (Aug. 19) meeting interim zoning regulations for six months on the location, operation and licensing of marijuana producers, processors and retailers.

Initiative 502, which was approved by voters statewide last November, legalized the recreational use and marketing of marijuana.

The motion – which was added to the agenda by council agreement at the start of the meeting – passed unanimously.

Wow…what regulations…spell them out please. This is not right to just sneak it on the agenda like that at the beginning of the meeting. What happened to letting everyone have their say? Was even one dispensary owner present?

For that matter were their any producers or processors present? Or given advanced notice?

For those wondering what happened at the last nights meeting it appears that the City of Burien has listen to the voters and is moving forward in enacting initiative 502.

“There are a couple of things we need to do in our zoning ordinances that I think are necessary and I think that this interim zoning ordinance is the best way to deal with that so that we can have that discussion in public, get the input we need, and carefully consider what we are going to do.” Gerald Robison

“I feel this is totally appropriate. The voters have spoken … the world hasn’t ended. Marijuana has been legal for 8 months now.” Jack Block
