Burien resident Michael Casey – pictured above as he departed from the Burien Transit Center – has left for his ‘Hiking It Forward’ fundraising hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, and has sent us these missives from the road:

“Gonna miss the ole Burien transit station. Lot of great drivers.”

“Haven’t felt the ole heart pound like this since I was 19 hitchhiking from Ohio to AZ with 20 bucks. It is on.”

“Killing me to not have my camera but this pack is still too damn heavy and knee is already hurting.”

“If my partners homework is correct our first six days will be a 9,000′ ascent.  I think that’s a poor choice, but I’ve agreed to let him lead for obvious reasons.”

We’ll be adding updates as we get them from Casey, who is now somewhere on the trail in Northern California.

As we previously reported, Casey is walking the PCT to raise money for various local charities – to learn more, or to donate to his cause, check out his Facebook Page here.
