KellieBassenA ‘Pirate Pup Pep Rally’ will be held this Sunday, Dec 1, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in an effort to drum up support for B-Town DOG’s campaign to win a makeover for a new dog park in Burien.

“We are planning an ‘invasion’ of Lakeview Park and the planting of our pirate flag!” Organizer Kellie Bassen told The B-Town Blog. “We will start in Town Square Park (pirate gear optional but encouraged) and march the six blocks to Lakeview where we will plant our flag and claim the park ‘Pirate Territory’!”

The makeover is being offered by pet food maker Beneful, which is also providing tennis balls being given away to all four legged pirates at the rally.

“I’m having this rally to promote my (and in turn, Burien’s) Finalist status in the National 2013 Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest and to bring attention to my video entry,” Kellie added.

Here’s the schedule for Sunday:

  • 1 p.m.: Gather at Town Square
  • 1:30 p.m.: Grab our signs and begin our journey to Lakeview
  • 2 p.m.: (approx) Arrive at Lakeview Park and claim it pirate territory by planting our pirate flag!
  • 2:30 p.m. Guest speakers
  • 3 p.m.: Token giveaway prize provided by Beneful (Thanks!)

Here’s her video entry:

Kellie is one of 14 finalists in the nation competing for a $500,000 Dream Dog Park designed by Nate Berkus and the 2013 Beneful Design Team.

“I don’t think I need to tell you what an opportunity this is for the City of Burien, in terms of improving the city and getting some positive publicity on a national level and I want to win,” she said. “I have a really good chance, too. We need to get the word out and get people to vote on the video starring members of the B-Town D.O.G. We are competing against some very large cities, but I know we as a community can do this!”
