The Board of Discover Burien (NOTE: BTB Founder/Publisher Scott Schaefer sits on the board) announced Thursday, Dec. 5 that Andrea Reay will serve as its new Executive Director.

“The board worked extremely hard to find someone knowledgeable and passionate about Burien” said John White, Discover Burien Board President. “We found a perfect fit in Andrea.”

Upon accepting the part-time position, Ms. Reay said, “Continuing to expand our membership, and the educational and development opportunities we offer members as they advance in their careers and their business, will truly create a powerful force for economic development in Burien.”

Reay received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, and has been an active member of the Burien community since moving to the city with her family in 2007.

“I am honored to be part of an organization and group of individuals as dedicated to the Burien community as I am,” Andrea said. “I look forward to expanding our partnerships and creating opportunities that will improve the lives of Burien residents and business owners now and in the future.”

“We are pleased to have found someone with Andrea’s level of non-profit experience plus an enthusiasm for Burien,” said Erin Collins, Discover Burien Interim Executive Director and Vice President of the Board “As a resident of our community we know that her level of commitment to Burien is high and that she is going to do great things for our organization and for the community as a whole!”

Andrea Reay has been a leader in non-profit management for over 12 years and has successfully managed and maintained multi-million dollar budgets. She is a board member of Burien Arts and Burien Actors Theatre as well as a founding member of the B-Town Beat monthly music and art walk. This past summer she was also a candidate in the primary for the Burien City Council.

“In many ways what led me to seek the position on the city council also led me to apply for the position of Executive Director,” she added. “I am passionately devoted to our community. I look forward to sitting down with all city council members and staff to discuss how Discover Burien can be an audacious leader and advocate for our community.”

Ms. Reay succeeds Gina Bourdage who left the position this fall after serving over two years (read our previous coverage here).

Founded in 2002, Discover Burien is a dynamic local service organization dedicated to collaborative partnership with its members, and focused on community in order to increase the economic vitality and strength of Burien.

Please come and welcome Andrea this Saturday at Winterfest – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – on SW 152nd Street in Downtown Burien. Celebrate the Holiday Season by shopping locally at this annual community event that includes free horse and carriage rides, hay rides, hot treats and in-store specials.

  1. Question Authority says:

The question is – with this new position will she also use the term “mom’s know best’ as she did during her thankfully unsuccessful bid for the city council position? I found that attitude to be one of sexism and ignorance and I have no place for it in any Burien linked position.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 15 Thumb down 12
