SGR, the executive search firm hired to find the next City Manager for the City of Burien, has posted the online job application for the gig.

“City managers are trained professionals in the operation of government,” reads a note on the city’s website. “It is the City Manager’s job to implement the City Council’s policies through the preparation of a City budget and capital improvement program for the council’s final approval.”

“Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree and 7 or more years of experience as City Manager, Assistant City Manager, or comparable position preferred,” reads the job listing. “Experience in economic development, public-private partnerships, and contract management is essential. Demonstrated experience in environmental protection issues highly desired.”

City Attorney Craig Knutson is currently serving as interim City Manager, and we understand that job applications will be taken until Jan. 15, 2014.

Burien, Washington, is seeking a new City Manager. The City has a population of over 48,000 and is located just 12 minutes from Seattle.

Burien is a home rule city with a Council-Manager form of government. The City has 59 full-time employees and more than 30 part-time and temporary employees. The biennial adopted budget for 2013-2014 is $72.2million.

City departments/divisions include the City Manager’s Office, City Clerk, Legal, Community Development, Economic Development, Finance, Human Resources, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, and Public Works. The City contracts for police services and fire, water, sewer, and library services are provided by special purpose districts. A private company provides park maintenance, and a non-profit agency provides animal control services.

    I am not surprised that there is a slow process of getting a new City Manager. There were so many people that thought they could do a better job than Mike Martin was doing .Any new person would be concerned that all the new elected council members and their friends will always be second guessing him and or trying to get their personal plans completed therefore giving any new person the same crap that Mike had to take to do the good job that he did. Good Luck
