Burien’s Kennedy Catholic High School announced the receipt of commitments totaling over $1,000,000 to assist with the development of a new athletic complex at the school. The first gift was announced in October from William F. Eisiminger, a local philanthropist, securing the naming rights of the future field. The second leadership commitment was made recently by the Kennedy Catholic Athletic Booster Club. These gifts, combined with the support from future fundraising efforts, will allow the school to continue the design and development of the complex. The school has retained a design team under the leadership of Bassetti Architects and D.A. Hogan and Associates. These local firms have decades of experience with hundreds of school and field/stadium projects. The master plan includes a multi-phase project with the first phase scheduled to begin this summer. Phase one will feature a new turfed athletic field (football, soccer, lacrosse, track & field, physical education) on the current school campus. The design team is working with City of Burien officials and WSDOT through the current permitting phase. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach ob Bourgette, looks forward to completing his long and successful career on the much anticipated home field. “This project is invigorating and energizing,” he said. “The Lancer athletic community has waited for a home field for nearly fifty years. I’m honored to be a part of this exciting, legacy project.” Booster Club President and Kennedy Catholic parent and alumnus Vinnie Sposari led the Booster Board to this leadership commitment. “I’m honored to lead the Club during this time of transformation,” Vinnie said. “My father helped form the club in the 1970s and I carry on his legacy for my children, all students, and all Lancers who will follow us.” At the school’s homecoming in October, Eisiminger announced his early support of the project. “My leadership gift to Kennedy Catholic will change the face of athletics here forever, Eisiminger said. “I am so proud to lead the campaign for the future William F. Eisiminger Field.” The cost of the project will be paid for entirely by private funds. Fundraising for phase one continues. The athletic complex is one of a number of future capital improvements outlined in the school’s new strategic plan through 2020. Kennedy Catholic has also just announced the appointment of Michael Prato to the role of school president. Mr. Prato has served as the school’s principal for 10 years and a search has begun for a new principal. Prato will guide the vision and growth of the school and he is committed to its vibrancy, excellence and accessibility.
