Names of six finalists for Burien City Manager position announced

On Friday (Feb. 21), the names of the six finalists for the City Manager position were released by the City of Burien.

Residents have been invited by the city to meet the finalists on Friday, Feb. 28 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Burien Community Center lobby (14700 6th Ave SW).

The candidates will be given a city staff-led tour of Burien during the day.

Participants at Friday’s reception will be asked to submit written comments about the candidates.

Here are the six finalists:

  • Gregory D. Baker, former City Manager, City of Damascus, OR.
  • Kamuron D. Gurol, Assistant City Manager and Director of Community Development, City of Sammamish, WA.
  • Timothy Hacker, former City Manager, City of North Las Vegas, NVNev.
  • Joe Hannan, City Administrator, City of Mukilteo, WA.
  • Michael Matthias, Redevelopment Project Manager, former Olympia brewery
  • William Monahan, City Manager, City of Milwaukie, OR.

On March 1, interviews will be conducted by the City Council in executive session. The City leadership team and a panel made up of City advisory board representatives also will conduct interviews.

The Council hopes to make its final decision on Burien’s next city manager at its March 3 meeting. The selection will be made public after a contract is negotiated.

The Burien Community Center is located at 14700 6th Ave SW.
