Alert neighbor – and ‘convincing’ K9 Officer – helps Burien Police nab thieves
Burien Police are reporting that Monday evening (March 24) in the 11700 block of 12th Ave SW, an alert resident noticed suspicious activity near his home and called 911.
“The neighbor thought several adults may be trespassing at a nearby vacant home,” reads a note on the Burien PD Facebook page. “Burien Police responded and quickly determined several people were inside who refused to come out. While waiting for the homeowner’s sister to respond with a key, K9 Officer West and his partner ‘Sam’ responded. It turns out the suspects also decided to barricade the doors with furniture and the like.”
Once the officers made entry into the home, Sam’s convincing bark (“very convincing!” according to police) encouraged everyone to come out from their hiding spots and give up. In the end, three suspects were arrested for burglary and outstanding warrants.
Police also report that two stolen cars were found in the garage.
“One suspect was a very well known gang member and was also in possession of stolen mail,” police added. “Not surprising there was also evidence of drug use in the house. Thanks to the responding officers and follow-up detectives who came out to assist.”
“A special thanks to the neighbor who saw something suspicious in his neighborhood AND did something about it,” police added. “Our success relies upon the help we receive from citizens in this great city!”
