A teacher at Burien’s Hilltop Elementary School told us that a fire near the school – in the 12000 block of 24th Ave South – was bad enough that children had to be called inside from recess due to poor air quality.

There were no injuries other than perhaps some concerned grownups and scared kids.

“We can see the huge smoke clouds nearby and had to bring our kids from recess because the air quality became poor, quickly,” said Damaris, a teacher at the school.

According to Doug Luedeman of the Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department, the fire was in an outside burn barrel – which is illegal – that caught some tires on fire that were stacked next to it.

“No damage that I’m aware of.” Luedeman added.

Hope the fireman ticketed the illegal burner!
