Eagle Scout candidate Henk Ufkes – from Burien Troop #375 – is coordinating a stream survey and clean up of Burien’s Salmon Creek, and he’s seeking Volunteers to help him this Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 a.m. – Noon.

Ufkes needs help planting dozens of native plants along the stream and removing dozens of old tires and lots of other trash.

Volunteers should meet at the Salmon Creek Sewer facility located at 12550 Shorewood Drive SW at 9:30 a.m. and work until Noon.

Bring gloves, wading work boots, and trash bags.

“Everyone can help,” Ufkes said. “Our goal is to bring salmon back to Salmon Creek.”

Oh, and donuts will be served!

What a great way to make a BIG difference in our area! It should be a beautiful day!

Great project much appreciated by those of us who live in the neighborhood. However, to restore the salmon run, the first step will be to remove the deliberate blockage at the mouth of the creek.

Didn`t some old gal way back when block that stream because she was sick and tired of guys coming there during chum season and poaching the heck out of them with pitchforks, shovels and whatever else they were using?
We used to dirt bike there in the canyon when we were kids and stop to catch rainbows in that stream along with millers creek when I was kid.

You are partially correct but it wasn’t because of poaching, at least it isn’t now. The deliberate blockage is inside a secure looking fenced and gated estate. I was told it was because she didn’t want the spawned out carcasses in a stream through her yard. The blockage was not done by the current owner.
