From our sister site The Waterland Blog, a Sponsor of the Des Moines Farmers Market: DMFMFoodTrucks There’s just a little over a week until Opening Day – Saturday, June 7 – of the Des Moines Waterfront Farmers Market! Coming off its most successful season in history (up +20% over 2012), the Market will be bringing in many new vendors, including farms, fresh fish, meat ranchers, unique produce and much more. The word “Waterfront” will be prominent again at The Des Moines Marina, with boating and fishing activities along with the Boardwalk Bistro (look for new picnic benches) where you will be able to enjoy your favorite market-prepared foods. Opening day will also feature our second SeattleFoodTruck.com Truck-In, with 10 of your favorites and some new ones. “The market again will have many of your favorite artisans and crafters and well as some surprises,” said Rikki Marohl, market manager. Also returning will be the market’s own wines, including last year’s favorite Waterfront White, a fabulous Riesling, with all the proceeds going toward the market’s Endowment Fund. Look for our enlarged wine booth where tasting once again is encouraged. Don’t forget to bring your old musical instruments to donate them to the Highline Music4Life program. They will be at the market every Saturday in June. The program refurbishes the instruments and gives them to the Highline School students who wouldn’t be able to afford them. The local Rotary Club of Des Moines recently made a $10,000 donation to this wonderful program thru its annual Blues & Blues Festival held this year on August 23rd. Wayne Corey, Board President, commented on the past two seasons at the new marina location:

“You know that old saying – location, location, location? It truly is what makes us one of the premier markets in King County. We continue to see growth in vendors, shoppers and sales. One of our goals this year is to have more activities for families. Look for more information on this blog and our website.”
The market and the Rotary Club of Des Moines, along with partner Senior Services, are proud to once again offer the HYDE Shuttle providing local transportation to seniors 55 and older and the disabled of all ages living in Des Moines, Normandy Park and Burien. To keep up with all the special events, featuring what’s fresh and entertainment at the market, please log onto the web site and sign up for our e-newsletter that comes out once a week. You can also keep up on the activities by visiting the markets Facebook page. See you on OPENING DAY where The Waterland Blog will be blogging live!]]>
