Town Square Park Fountain, hampered by plumbing problems, restarts
UPDATE Monday, June 2, 2014: The City of Burien announced Monday that the Town Square Park Fountain has restarted “on a limited basis,”according to a note on the city’s website.
“The City of Burien regrets that the Town Square Park water feature has been closed temporarily due to significant loss of water resulting from leaks,” reads the announcement. “Burien Parks is assessing the plumbing systems, adding isolation valves and performing pressure tests on the water lines that feed the fountain spray components. Once the source of the water leak(s) are identified and costs are estimated, a plan for repairs will be developed. Of course, we hope for simple and inexpensive solutions, but it is a complex system with numerous lines that extend from the control vault to the actual spray heads in the water feature. The lines are located under landscaping, concrete pathways and the water feature’s hardscape. The goal of the investigation is to minimize wasted water and limit the potential for further damage. We regret that the public’s use of the water feature has been and will be restricted as we complete the investigation. We hope that our findings will allow for some continued operation through the summer, but as of today we cannot make a strong prediction. As the investigation progresses, we will keep the public updated on the City website. If you have questions or need more information, contact Burien Parks at 206-988-3700.”
In the meantime, folks looking for a spray park experience might check out the spray park at Angle Lake Park. It runs every day, 11:00am – 7:00pm. More info at http://www.ci.seatac.wa.us/index.aspx?page=144
