From Advertiser St. Vincent de Paul:

Shop Where It Matters. Shop with Vincent.

We know you shop at thrift stores and make donations wherever you’d like. At St. Vincent de Paul, we are obligated to give you some free and friendly “shopper & donor beware” advice about thrift stores. Remember this, all thrift stores are not the same. Do some checking and you’ll see what we mean.

To be sure, there are ways of determining which thrift store is which, how they operate, and how they support their mission.

Sometimes you may just want a good deal. Then sometimes you just want to get rid of your old stuff. And sometimes you want to shop where your purchasing dollars “really matter,” meaning the proceeds from purchases have significant impact in the community.

St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores are part of one of King County’s oldest and most respected charities. We have been here since 1920, 94 years, running thrift stores, helping neighbors, recycling all kinds of housewares and clothing items and serving the community. Unlike some thrift store groups, our stores are part of an independent non-profit 501 (c )(3).

Some thrift stores are part of for profit corporations. When you buy from these stores, any profit generated goes to the owners and not to help in your community.

At St. Vincent de Paul, 90 cents of every dollar donated to us goes to programs to help people. And our stores certainly help contribute to this.

Shop where it matters. Shop with Vincent.
