With only one item on the April ballot for our area – King County Proposition No. 1, a property tax levy to replace emergency safety radio equipment – it appears that the measure will pass easily.

The measure requires a simple majority to pass.

Here are the first round of results, as of Tuesday, April 28 at 8:15 p.m.:

King County Proposition No. 1

  • Approved: 162,458 • 64.99%
  • Rejected: 87,527 • 35.01%

According to King County Elections:

The King County council passed Ordinance 17993 concerning funding for a new, upgraded regional emergency radio network. This proposition would provide funding to replace the current aging emergency radio network used for dispatching and communicating with police, fire and other first responders. The proposition would fund capital and transition costs as defined in Ordinance 17993 and would authorize King County to levy an additional regular property tax of $0.07 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for nine years with collection beginning in 2016. The 2015 levy amount would be used to compute limitations under Chapter 84.55 RCW for the eight succeeding years.

I was quite torn on this vote… I will not vote for ANYTHING

  2. Doug says:

(continued) I will not vote for ANYTHING that increases my taxes. Yes, I’m selfish. But did not vote against this as it is somewhat worthy for public safety, although it should be paid for up front in the county budget, not as an add-on.

Usually I go over to the elections office on Grady Way, to vote on those evil Diebold machines. I will never send in my mail ballot, as it was Ron Sims’ scheme to enable massive vote fraud.
