The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of the fatal Aug. 14 car crash on Ambaum Blvd. SW as Benjamin Joseph Smith, 26, of Auburn.

The cause of death was listed as multiple skull fractures due to blunt force injury to his head.

Police said that speed was likely a factor in the single-car accident, which happened around 3 a.m. Deputies added that the driver failed to negotiate the turn, and struck a jersey barrier.

A Gofundme page has been created to help fund a memorial for Smith; here’s more info:

Our beloved nephew, Benjamin Joseph Smith, was tragically killed in a car accident on August 14. He suffered a lot of heartache in the short 26 years of his life. He was orphaned and in and out of the foster care system for most of his childhood. We lost touch with him until just recently and were so excited to be reunited with him when we got the awful heart-wrenching call. Now, we are facing a financial hardship as we struggle to pay for a proper memorial service and burial. Anything you can donate is appreciated.

Please visit Ben’s memorial page where you can get updated information about memorial services and leave your condolences for the family:

As we previously reported, the crash occurred on Friday, Aug. 14 on Ambaum Blvd. SW near SW 119th Street. The driver of the vehicle was arrested after running from the scene.
