If you missed the unveiling of Normandy Park Art Gallery’s new exhibit at the end of August you will have the chance to see it this month on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Normandy Park Senior Living’s monthly champagne reception, featuring the return of the local jazz combo Zee Yazz Quartet.

The Zee Yazz Quartet was the featured group for the grand opening of Normandy Park Art Gallery in June, kicking off the first two-month exhibit. The current exhibit also showcases the talents of five local artists: Sharon McConnell, Judy Eckhart, Marta Crestwell and Anita Corby from Artists United, and Adrian VanderHoeven, owner of Village Frame and Gallery in Des Moines. The first exhibit raised over $250 to benefit Hospitality House in Burien, and for the next two months a percentage of the proceeds from art sales will go to Highline Area Food Bank.

Each month Normandy Park Senior Living hosts an event in the gallery featuring local musicians, writers, comedians, dance and dramatic presentations, and the gallery is open to the public during regular business hours daily. The artists are present at these events for attendees to meet and learn about. “We’re catching on in the neighborhood and are starting to see more and more people come to the receptions each month.” according to Mac McQuade, Director of Community Outreach for Normandy Park Senior Living. “Word is getting out that we are doing something to benefit and draw together the local community, supporting local residents and organizations in need, and providing an inspiring evening of music, hors d’oeuvres, some bubbly and a lot of really fun talented people from the area” says McQuade.
