Please welcome our latest Advertiser: Bob Edgar for Burien City Council.

As we do with all our Advertisers, we’re offering him a chance to share his message:

Hello Neighbors, Friends, Burien Residents and Burien Voters:

My name is Bob Edgar and I am running for Burien City Council, Position #2.

My goals for Burien are:  1. A safe, vibrant city with a small town flavor that supports Burien residents, families and businesses for the long-term.  2. A city where residents and neighborhood voices are listened to with respect and are reflected in government decisions.

It has been a privilege and an honor to serve Burien residents for the past four years as deputy mayor and as a councilmember.  Public Safety, Economic Development, resolution of the Annexation issue and the completion and acceptance of the Shoreline Master Program by the Department of Ecology (DOE) have been top priorities for the City.

Burien is poised for further success and the time is now to elect energetic, positive and practical problem-solving leaders to the Burien Council.  With many years of business experience, I stand for open, honest, responsive government, sound fiscal management and robust economic development for Burien.

This is an exciting time for Burien!  Town Square, with the addition of the Merrill Gardens and the Legacy apartment projects, has brought a new energy to the City’s landscape.  The innovative storm water system in the airport impacted Northeast Redevelopment Area (NERA) has already attracted new development and future new jobs to the city.  Recent State and Federal monies for road improvements to SR 518 will increase access to NERA.  Burien’s new magazine and the Economic Development Plan will make Burien a quality contender for attracting new businesses, new home buyers and new visitors to the City.  I’ve been a key voice and vote in these projects.  I will continue to champion protection of critical areas.  A healthy natural environment is one of the key building blocks for a healthy economy, healthy neighborhoods and healthy residents.

Burien is finally moving forward economically and it needs to have stable and dependable leadership on the Council to keep that momentum.  I am the council member that provides that committed and passionate leadership for the Council, City and Burien residents.  Town square needs to be a vibrant core attracting more business and visitors-a landmark of which to be proud.

More attention needs to be placed on our neighborhoods that are not just in the “hub” area of Burien.  Burien needs a community recreation activity center for our youth and residents; recreation is a component of economic development and healthier life.  And the recently announced construction of a $19.4M health sciences facility at Burien’s Puget Sound Skills Center will create great opportunities for students from the Highline, Federal Way, Fife, Tahoma, and Tukwila school districts to develop marketable skills.

My Community Involvement:  A Burien resident for 36 years, my community service includes:  Creation of the Salmon Creek Greenbelt, Director for Shorewood on the Sound Community Club, founding member of Sustainable Burien, establishing Burien’s first Community Gardens, member of Neighbors of Seahurst Park, participation in Burien’s Clean Sweep, involvement with the local Boy Scouts, committee member for the Salmon Creek Neighborhood Plan, dressed up as ‘Bert the Salmon’ at a Seattle Mariners baseball game.

Occupation: Corporate Education.

Education: AA Computer Science, BA Earth Science, MBA Information Systems, Doctorate, Seattle University, Educational Leadership.
