Thanks to the generosity of its members, and an organizational partnership with the Burien/White Center Rotary Club, Discover Burien announced that it has established a new scholarship to help students in our community achieve their education and career goals. This year the organization plans to distribute approximately $3,000 in scholarship awards. The application is available to download here (PDF file), or available in person at the office and visitor center located at 427 SW 152nd Street. The deadline to complete the application is December 31, 2015. “The mission of our organization is to create and sustain a vibrant economy and dynamic community through promotion and education. Establishing this scholarship fund enables our organization to fulfill our mission on several levels. Any economic development strategy needs to focus on supporting existing business and commerce, as well as finding new ways to nourish and encourage future investment.” said Executive Director Andrea Reay “One of the ways we can do that effectively is to invest in our students and their future. This scholarship fund is an investment in our community and for our community, one that we hope will bring lasting benefits to Burien.” Discover Burien is always seeking additional funds for our scholarship program and if you are interested in donating towards this fund all donations are fully tax deductible. Scholarship recipients will be honored at the 2016 “Best of Burien” awards dinner March 11 at the Burien Community Center. Questions regarding the “Making Burien Awesome” scholarship, or any of their programs or work plan objectives, can be sent to [email protected] or by calling the office at (206) 433-2882.
