[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff:]

Let me get this understood. In the Green – Bell debate, as a response to his favoring the repeal of Ordinance 621 Austin Bell says, “I simply don’t believe that ordinance has prevented anyone from defecating behind your garage… .”

Interesting. Mr. Bell doesn’t believe the ordinance does what it proposes to stop and make unlawful therefore in his mind the ordinance should be repealed. He does not say that the law might have a positive deterrent effect. He does not even admit that the law at least makes the activity which the city wants stopped or reduced, an unlawful act and therefore can be used to prosecute the offender.

No, Austin “simply” would do away with a law, perhaps even more laws, which he deems not effective. So let me ask, does Austin therefore want to do away with speeding laws, with armed robbery laws, with domestic violence laws, since these activities continue to occur? According to his logic and wisdom if the law “doesn’t stop anyone from” committing that crime it should be, or he would, try to repeal the law. Think about it, “I simply don’t believe… .” On video tape at 1:22:47. What makes him think he is so “simply” that knowledgeable. Yet he is wrong in his “simple belief”.

Immediately following Bell’s comment, Darla Green relayed a story of how the ordinance help resolve a trespass situation in her shop. It was her experience with the effectiveness of the ordinance that causes her to support the ordinance. It is said that “with age comes wisdom”.

The two variant responses only illuminates the differences in the candidates and the fitness or readiness for the office. My vote is for Darla Green.

Puppy or puppet, all the same to me.

Please allow me to clarify my previous entry. My words as written were entirely referring to Austin Bell. In retrospect I felt the need to mention that so there was no confusion.
      Thank you, Vote Darla!

  2. Bill says:

Bell just needs to grow up and not make up BS about who he is or what he has done to pump up why someone should vote for him. Geeze, I hate guys who do that kind of stuff. But he is not ready to serve on the Council.

Do we need more laws against something that is already illegal?
