Happy 8th Birthday to Us!

Eight years ago, the domain was registered, with the hopes of providing something we thought was missing from the local media landscape – an effective, frequently-updated, professional online news and events source for Burien and its fine residents.

We were Burien’s first local blog, and one of the very first in the entire Northwest.

On Dec. 11, 2007, we posted our first two stories, linked here for your flashbackian pleasure:

Since then – and over 11,000 posts, 28,000+ Comments, 5+ million Unique Sessions and more than 11 million Pageviews later (whew!) – we’re stronger than ever, averaging this year over 84,000 Unique Visits and 268,867 Pageviews per month (as per Google Analytics so far for 2015), up a whopping +57% growth in impressions over 2014.

In addition to our ever-increasing traffic, we are continuing to build a fast-growing social media network as well. As of Dec. 11, 2015, our Facebook Page has 8,474 “Likes” (vs 6,659 on the same date last year, a growth of +27%), and our Twitter Feed goes out to 5,039 Followers (vs 4,214 last year, a growth of +20%).

And we couldn’t have done any of this without YOU, our Readers – your community spirit, your involvement in the blog, and especially your continued support of our wonderful Advertisers!

Scott & Theresa Schaefer

The B-Town Blog is part of South King Media, a network of six local blogs for the area, and is managed by Scott & Theresa Schaefer, who live, work, play and spend their money right here in B-Town. That’s right, we’re a true, indie and all-local “Mom & Pop” internet business!

Of course we very much appreciate the ongoing support of the dozens of local businesses who count on us to market their messages to our engaged Readers. And if you’re interested in receiving our Media Kit/Rate Card, please email Sales Manager Theresa Schaefer here, or call our office at (206) 248-2565.

Oh sure, we’ve been copied, unethically (and illegally) cybersquatted/redirected and hacked, but we’ve outlasted all copycats and we’re still here serving up true local, professional, award-winning journalism.

And we’re proud to say we’re still evolving and improving – this year, we received and implemented a prestigious journalism grant from American University’s J-Lab to create our own hyperlocal Podcasts via SoKing News (hear previous Podcasts and subscribe here).

Oh, and did we mention that our all-local internet radio station SoKing Internet Radio is still rockin’ the virtual airwaves? Check it out here!

We’d also like to remind any potential Advertisers out there to shop around and ask for actual, independent proof of website traffic statistics (ie: Google Analytics) or independent circulation stats before buying, because you deserve honesty, transparency and professionalism.

Be sure to show your support of your original hometown blog by supporting our Advertisers (HINT: do business with these Advertisers when you can, and be sure to mention the blog), and don’t forget to use our exclusive Coupons, which you can print yourself (click images to print coupons):

Your work and the way you engage the community is, in my view, the purest form of integrity one can find. You support Burien at every turn. We are all proud of your success (and your continued success). Healthy communities will always need a person of your spirit and good will, if they are to thrive.
