Volunteers are needed to help plant native plants this Saturday, Oct. 8, at Miller Creek at S. 144th Street in Burien:

WHEN: Saturday, October 8, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to Noon

WHERE: Park at the trail parking lot along Des Moines Memorial Drive just south of S. 144th St. in Burien. Walk west along the Miller Creek trail, cross S 144th Way, and look for us next to the S 144th St Miller Creek Trail on the right.

WHAT: We will plant 150 native trees and shrubs to create a protective buffer for Miller Creek.


  • Clothing that will protect you from the cold, rain, or sun (and that you don’t mind getting dirty)
  • Filled water bottle, gloves if you have them
  • We provide gloves, tools, snacks, and training.

Walker Preserve Restoration on Saturday, Oct. 15
You are also invited to join us next Saturday, October 15 at Walker Preserve. We will to restore the forest near Miller and Walker Creeks, continuing the work that has been done by previous volunteers since 2008. This helps preserve the creek, native forest, and their fish and wildlife inhabitants.

No experience is necessary, and coffee, gloves, and tools are provided! Please RSVP so we can plan for tools and refreshments!

WHEN: Saturday, October 15, 2016, 9:30 a.m. to noon

WHERE: Walker Preserve park – the entrance is at the NW corner of the intersection of SW 168th St.& 2nd Ave. SW in Normandy Park. See the map. If driving, your parking options include:

  • Three spaces in the small lot at SW 171st St. and Second Ave. S.W.
  • On the street along SW 168th St.
  • From the gate behind the Walker Preserve sign, walk down the trail towards the creek.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This park does NOT have a restroom – please plan ahead.
