Longtime local business Burien Cycle – operating since 1948 – will be closing their location at 804 SW 151st Street soon, owner Aaron Johnson recently announced.

“We here at Burien Cycle are very sad to have to shut our doors,” Johnson told The B-Town Blog. “We loved the dedicated customers that we had over the past three years. I have never seen a community that loves their city as much as some of the B-Town residents.”

Johnson purchased the bike shop from Mike Solberg in 2014. He decided to keep Burien Cycle as the name – a name that was first used in 1948 by Solbergs’ father.

The shop moved to its current location in 1954.

But sadly, that tradition will come to an end soon.

“Since the landscape of retail is changing and the prices of real estate in the area is on the higher side we have to shut the Burien location,” Johnson added. “We still will service any of the bikes that we sold in Burien at our Renton Location g.h.y. bikes. Our last sale is going to be this weekend (Oct. 2223).”

So sad! Burien Cycle has been a great local bike shop. They have always been super helpful – from a quick derailleur hanger adjustment, to digging through the parts boxes so I could lace up the most awesome 18″ coaster brake wheel my daughter and her $10 garage sale bike has ever seen.

Not a lot of other options close by. Sorry to see them go…

Bummer. The crew in the shop was always very helpful and the repair prices were very reasonable. I hate to see these small businesses struggle with high real estate prices. I hope a new chain store does not end up in the spot.

Sad….. Got a green Schwinn stingray there in 1966 and half a dozen more bikes since. Always great service I will miss it..

Darn! Aaron is a great mechanic.
    My bike will miss him.

    I’ll miss my LBS.

Bought 3 bikes for the kids from them in 2008/9. Two redlines and a specialized. Great service and buying experience. Sad to see them go.
