Have you and your four-legged friend(s) enjoyed Burien’s new off-leash Dog Park yet? Next time you’re there, be sure to appreciate the fine work of new Eagle Scout Yasin Ali-Halane, a member of Boy Scout Troop 352: img_3463 img_3492 img_0466 img_0527 img_0517 24august16-7 img_3485 [caption id="attachment_105846" align="aligncenter" width="490"] Here’s Bonnie. He completed his Eagle Board of Review and earned the rank of Eagle Scout on August 24, 2016. His scouting accomplishments will be celebrated this Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Highline United Methodist Church (13016 1st Ave South). Yasin’s eagle project was completed through the City of Burien Parks and Recreation Department. A senior at Raisbeck Aviation High School, he was originally tasked with building one bridge structure for a dog agility course that was being planned at Lakeview Park in Burien. He then took on the additional challenge of building two additional A-Frame structures along with the bridge structure for the dog agility course at the park. The project consisted of three phases:

  • The first phase was the design of the three structures. Yasin spent countless hours drawing up designs and going out to other dog parks to take measurements for his own structures.
  • Phase two was gathering materials and completing the pre-installation build for the three structures. Yasin, along with his scoutmaster Mike Poelzer, went to Dunn Lumber and received price quotes based on the designs Yasin drew up. Yasin gathered members of his troop at his scoutmaster’s house for the pre-installation build portion of the project.
  • Phase three was the installation of the three structures at Lakeview Park. He went to Lakeview Park with several adults and youth from his troop on June 24 and June 25 to complete installation of the structures, which required large holes to be dug out and cement to hold structures in place.
Upon completing the construction phase of his project, Yasin began to complete the required paperwork to be eligible for an Eagle Board of Review, and then scheduled and later passed his Board of Review on August 24, 2016. Yasin started his Scouting career as a Cub Scout in Pack 240 and crossed over to Troop 352 in 2010. He has been an active member of Troop 352 since then, and has earned a total of 41 merit badges including the badges required to earn Eagle. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow. What a unique project, too! I second Shari’s comments.
