Quiet Skies Coalition on agenda for Burien City Council meeting Jan. 23

An update from our friends at the Quiet Skies Coalition [1]:

On Monday, January 23, 2017 at 7 p.m., the Burien City Council will vote to release funds already approved for litigation against the FAA and to join the Quiet Skies Coalition in litigation against the FAA. In order to get the Council to approve this, we need YOU to come to the meeting, sign up to speak and voice your support.

Since our last newsletter, Quiet Skies Coalition has retained an attorney with Dentons Law Group in San Francisco who has experience litigating the FAA. One of our committee members spent nine years at the FAA as an inspector and understands their manuals and procedure requirements. We believe the FAA ignored their own requirements when they made the change in flight pattern in July, 2016. [1]

While the added airplane noise is disturbing enough, it is the tip of the spear as far as the dangerously negative environmental health effects of these overflights. The overwhelming evidence of the adverse effects of airplane emissions impacts all of us, especially our children. These negative consequences are long term.

Quiet Skies Coalition recently hosted a meeting bringing together similar groups representing citizens of ten cities, all the way from Federal Way to Shoreline. We are planning to join together under the umbrella of one group to make sure we are heard and can fight the Port and FAA together.

SeaTac Airport is expanding and will continue to do so for years to come unless we fight this unbridled expansion. The growth must be contained to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our citizens. We cannot allow our communities to be destroyed.

Please come to the meeting Monday, January 23rd at 7 p.m. to voice your support for the City of Burien to release the funds for litigation and join us in fighting the FAA.
