Celebrate Mardi Gras with FREE King Cake at Advertiser Can’t Stop Smackin’
This Tuesday morning – Feb. 28 – will come very early for Smackin’ owners Jerrie and Tommy Walker.
“Why?” you may ask.
KING cake, of course! Jerrie makes it from scratch and it takes time to rise and be ready for the hungry lunch crowd. All Mardi Gras day, every customer will be treated to this New Orleans tradition absolutely free, with the purchase of their entree.
You heard right, FREE.
What’s King cake? You may ask sheepishly… the story goes that it is named after the Three Wise Men or Kings who followed the star to find the baby Jesus at Epiphany. Since Fat Tuesday is the final day of the season of Epiphany, the last day before the season of Lent in the Christian tradition; it has become associated with Mardi Gras. In New Orleans many bakers hide a plastic baby figure in the cake; with the finder winning a prize or perhaps the honor of providing the King cake for next year. You can learn more about this tradition here at mardigrasneworleans.com.
That’s not all you’ll find in the cheery eatery, there will be plenty of beads, and don’t miss the beer bucket specials (5 Bud or Bud Lights) for just $12.00 and GUMBO! or as Smackin’ fans say YUMBO!
Can’t Stop Smackin’ is a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner any time, but especially when you are craving BBQ with richness and complexity in the true Southern tradition. Scratch made sauces and a pride in presenting classic Southern inspired cuisine with a Pacific Northwest kick is what makes Can’t Stop Smackin’ a local find.
You can even pick up a bottle of their classic sauce to enjoy at home on your way out of the restaurant, or at Pickled and Preserved, located in the Burien Town Center building.
