Former Burien City Manager Kamuron Gurol – who was unexpectedly ousted by the City Council on Sept. 26, 2016 – announced Monday (Feb. 27) that he has taken a new job with Sound Transit.

Gurol will serve as a Corridor Development Director, where he will work on light rail expansion, a new bus rapid transit line, and on commuter rail projects in north King County and Snohomish County.

“I’m looking forward to working within the agency and with stakeholders and partners to help build and expand our regional high capacity transit system,” Gurol said. “And hey, after today’s traffic nightmares it seems to me that we very much need more effective transportation choices for our region.”

Here’s Gurol’s full statement as posted on Facebook:

Hey there Facebook friends,

I thought I’d let people know that I start a new job at Sound Transit tomorrow as a Corridor Development Director. I’ll be working on light rail expansion, a new bus rapid transit line, and on commuter rail projects in north King County and in Snohomish County. It’ll be great to see old friends and colleagues, and make new ones in this new role.

Sound Transit has a big set of projects to plan and complete in the coming years, and I’m looking forward to working within the agency and with stakeholders and partners to help build and expand our regional high capacity transit system. And hey, after today’s traffic nightmares it seems to me that we very much need more effective transportation choices for our region.

Many people know that I left the City of Burien last fall and have been traveling, learning and volunteering a bit (and catching up on sleep!) since then. I want to thank my professional colleagues, friends and family for the support, good humor and advice, and for the feeling of connection I’ve enjoyed, especially in these last several months.

My best wishes and many thanks for being such an important part of my life.

– Kamuron

Happy for Kamuron. Glad he will be working in North King County only because we seem to not benefit from any transit help. A history note: we had much better bus service in the 40’s. By the way, the bus went around 3 Tree Point.
I was very sad he left Burien City, but I liked his statement: catch up on sleep!
