[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff. During this election year, we are allowing each candidate to introduce themselves in this manner as a public service at no charge:]

“I will always be on Burien’s side!”

Darla Green, owner of SkinPerfect Aesthetics in Burien, is challenging Nancy Tosta for Burien City Council Position 5.

We need to protect our home, Burien, a lovely city with unlimited potential, the hidden gem of King County.

Burien is facing serious crime and economic crises due to ineffective grandstanding and poor decisions from incumbents who are politically biased and beholden to outside money and interests.

My name is Darla Green, I am a Burien resident, Burien business owner, and single mother of two. I come from a diverse and colorful family and was in fact, born at Burien General Hospital. I have called Burien home most of my life.

My professional experience includes running a successful small business for over twelve years in Burien. I have also held Executive Management and high level business to business sales positions for over 20+ years. I am an active community volunteer – I sit on Seattle SouthSide Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Normandy Park’s Zombie Festival committee.

I am fiscally conservative yet socially liberal. I support our laws and ordinances and will advocate for personal responsibility, public safety, and a thriving business districts.

It is time that someone with leadership and passion steps up to take on the role of advocating for Burien and its citizens, without any personal agendas to distract from the important task of advancing Burien forward to become the successful and prosperous small city we know it can be.

Burien is no place for Seattle Failed politics. I vow to put Burien’s best interests ahead of outside interests that are attempting to take over Burien.

I would be a resounding NO VOTE on:

  • Safe Injection Sites
  • Low-Barrier Shelters
  • 15NOW (a sure small business detriment!)
  • Increase in B&O taxes

The above are FAILED policies in Seattle and would not be in Burien’s best interests and in fact will only cost Burien’s citizens their safety, security and harmony.

I will support:

  • Adding to our Police Department
  • Anti-Panhandling ordinance
  • Active enforcement of code compliance – Business & Residential
  • Business friendly policies
  • Balancing Burien’s budget
  • Youth recreation facilities
  • Advocating for all of Burien

This election is our best chance to stop the radical, failed Seattle policies continuing here.

My commitment will be to bring much needed common sense back to our local government and to put crime reduction and economic development as top priorities. If elected, I will vigorously and responsibly confront these issues that affect our community with strong leadership, courage, and empathy.

In my career, I’ve managed multi-million dollar budgets. I’ll bring that financial discipline to Burien. Together, we will work to create the vibrant and successful community we all want.

For Burien First leadership, Vote Darla Green.

“It will be my privilege to serve my hometown, Burien, WA as a Burien City Council Member. I am asking for your support and VOTE at this critical time in Burien’s history.”

– Darla Green
