[EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a Letter to the Editor, written by a Reader. It does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The B-Town Blog nor its staff. During this election year, we are allowing each local candidate to introduce themselves in this manner as a public service at no charge:]

Hello Friends, Neighbors, Burien Residents and Voters:

My name is Debi Wagner and I am running for re-election for Burien City Council position #3. It has been an honor and privilege to serve you these past four years. My goals for Burien are public safety, economic development, small business success, environmental protection, transparent government and a city where citizen input is heard, valued, and reflected in government decisions.

A little about myself. My husband and I have lived in Burien for over 20 years, we have raised our family here. Our children attended Highline Schools. We volunteer in the community in environment, schools, arts, sports and charities. With nearly 40 years of business experience, including accounting, franchise owner/operator, administrative director and customer service, I have the necessary skills to carefully examine the many issues we face, put resident interests first and keep Burien moving forward.

During my four years of service I have championed and voted to:

  • Add more police officers, an ordinance to keep our library and parks safe for families, re-start the youth Police Explorers
  • Advance economic development, smart growth for the city, began the process to fill town square storefronts, revised and reduced small business regulations
  • Publish a new Burien Magazine, promote Burien as a destination
  • Approve a strategic plan that included expanded athletic programs for our youth
  • Balance the budget that maintain reserves to offset a pending deficit in 2020
  • Have no increase in local taxes on residents
  • Have honest and transparent government and responsible council member conduct
  • Join with Quiet Skies Coalition to develop a winning case against the FAA to stop a new flight path through the heart of Burien
  • Preserve environmental protection for critical areas
  • Promote a new Community Recreation Center that benefits all ages

I am hoping for the opportunity to continue to preserve our small town atmosphere and strive to make Burien an even better place to live, work and play. Thank you for your support.

I respectfully ask for your continued support and vote in this upcoming election August 1, 2017.
