The City of Burien announced this week that the Town Square Water Feature is still undergoing a major renovation project, and won’t be completed until late July or early August.

The status update from the City of Burien is as follows:

  • Work has been going the last few weeks, which have been dry, but because it was wetter than usual in May and June, the project experienced some delays.
  • Brick paver (for reuse) and granite artwork removal work is complete.
  • Contractor has installed the 10-inch drain line system and begun work on the new water supply lines to the spray heads.
  • Due to some recent weather, field conditions, and anticipated technical issues regarding the original system, the project is delayed. Project Work is now likely to be completed in late July or early August.
  • Per King County Department of Health, the spray park is considered a “pool” and is therefore subject to many of the same health codes required of a public pool. Minor changes have been made to the pool drain basins which require Health Department scheduling for review and acceptance. Once this has been addressed, the drain basins will be installed then followed by the brick paver and granite artwork installation. When all feature work has been completed, it will need to be tested and again require final approval from the Department of Health.

Got admit, it’s a bit ironic that the City of Burien has project being delayed by gov bureaucracy.

I think it better than someone getting sick and suing the city. Or the city having to pay a fine from the health department would be a embarrassment to the city. Then the local news stations would all have their filler story for the next few days.
