ELECTION RESULTS 5: Races continue to tighten; Armstrong down by only 33

King County Elections released on Wednesday, Aug. 9 the latest tally of votes for the 2017 Burien City Council race, and some of the races continue to tighten up.

Here are some observations:

  • Darla Green’s lead over incumbent Nancy Tosta is shrinking – it’s down to just 21 votes (on Aug. 3 it was 184 votes).
  • Incumbent Steve Armstrong continues to mount a comeback – he’s only trailing Patty Janssen for his current Position No. 7 by just 33 votes (down from 52 on Aug. 3).
  • Krystal Marx’ lead over Patty Janssen has increased to 321 votes (it was 105 on Aug. 3).
  • Pedro Olguin’s lead over Joel Manning is now at 416 (it was 136 on Aug. 1).

The top two vote-getters for each non-partisan position will move onto the ballot for the Nov. 7 General Election.

  • Pedro E. Olguin 2,682 33.66 %
  • Joel Manning 2,266 28.44 %
  • Gary Wood 1,471 18.46 %
  • Charles Schaefer 1,311 16.45 %
  • Robert L. Richmond, III 222 2.79 %
  • Write-in 17 0.21 %

Council Position No. 3:

  • Debi Wagner*: 4,474 • 56.22 %
  • Jimmy Matta: 2,722 • 34.20 %
  • Austin Tucker: 716 • 9.00 %
  • Write-in: 46 • 0.58 %

Council Position No. 5:

  • Darla Green: 2,881 • 35.95 %
  • Nancy Tosta*: 2,860 • 35.68 %
  • Mary Russell: 932 • 11.63 %
  • Jill Esau: 1,320 • 16.47 %
  • Write-in: 22 • 0.27 %

Council Position No. 7:

  • Krystal Marx: 2,206 • 27.44 %
  • Patty Janssen: 1,885 • 23.45 %
  • Steve Armstrong*: 1,852 • 23.04 %
  • Trevor Gage: 1,385 • 17.23 %
  • Martin Culbert: 690 • 8.58 %
  • Write-in: 21 • 0.26 %
