Burien’s Town Square ‘Spray Park’ will reopen on Saturday, Sept. 2

The City of Burien announced Friday (Sept. 1) that its Town Square Spray Park will be reopening this Saturday, Sept 2, just in time for the long (and likely hot) Labor Day weekend.

The spray park will remain open through September, and pending weather, will remain open through October.

Opened in 2014, the spray fountain features an outline of Puget Sound and has been a favorite place for Burien kids to cool off during the summer months.

The Town Square Spray Park was closed this summer to complete the following repairs to the plumbing system:

  • Replacement of existing plumbing system (supply and drain lines)
  • Hardware updates to the water filtration system
  • Addition of a debris trap and stormwater diverter
  • Restoration of water feature landscaping and walkway

“We would like to thank Burien residents and visitors for their patience,” the City said. “The spray park has a number of special features to ensure the water is safe and clean that require additional time for inspections from both public health and building departments. Additionally, the grout and mortar bedding around the fountain bricks required two weeks of curing time prior to turning the water on. Due to the nature of this project, it had to be completed during the dry, summer months. We know this was a disappointment for a lot of families looking to cool off during this year’s hot summer.”

The spray park will be open for the month of September and will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In 2018, the spray park will be open May through October, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
