The Burien Film Festival is donating pianos to Burien small businesses, and organizers are seeking one small business in each of the 18 Burien neighborhoods to host a working piano.

This drive is part of a project to bring awareness to each of the 18 Burien neighborhoods via music, and to allow those with musical talent to bring joy to Burien.

“We seek to have a piano in each of the 18 neighborhoods, John White said. “The pianos are free and are designed to bring business to your establishment along with supporting local musical talent. Each location will represent the neighborhood they are located in.”

The first neighborhood small business has been selected – Phoenix Tea has received the first piano and will be the gathering place for “Downtown.” Downtown folks can visit Phoenix Tea and order their neighborhood t-shirt which will be a great value for future events.

A logo or crest has been designed for each neighborhood by Burien local artist Sam Sneke. Sam worked hard to make sure each logo truly represent s the spirit of each neighborhood. T-shirts displaying each neighborhood logo will be available at each of the 18 neighborhood locations plus a 19th t-shirt Sam designed for “Allies of Burien” so even folks from outside Burien can participate.

The Burien Film Festival will donate funds to local musicians to play the pianos at all 18 locations. Each location will stock and sell at very low cost the specific t-shirt designed for each neighborhood. We will announce special times to wear your local neighborhood t-shirt to win prizes.

For example, the first person to show up at Phoenix Tea wearing a “Downtown” Burien neighborhood t-shirt (hundreds were handed out free at the last Burien Film Festival) and buy one cup of Tea will receive $100.

So put on your ‘Downtown’ t-shirt and head for Phoenix Tea.

If you own a small business and wish to receive a free piano and become a center for your local neighborhood then please let us know by sending an email to [email protected] and we’ll connect you!

Phoenix Tea is located at 447 SW 152nd Street:
