UPDATE: Blustery storm knocks out power to thousands, closes SR 509 Wed.

The first real fall storm – with gusts up to 44 MPH at Sea-Tac Airport – knocked power out to around 11,000 City Light customers in Burien on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

There were two major outages – the first started just after 5 p.m., affected 3,800, and the second just before 9 p.m. hit 7,200.

Also, downed power lines closed northbound SR 509 near S. Cloverdale late Wednesday afternoon, turning our “secret passageway” into Seattle into a parking lot.

WSDOT said that backups were three miles long.
