A Community Food Drive benefiting Highline Schools Foundation’s Project N.O.W. has begun at Pollock Insurance in Burien:

Hi Neighbors,

We are excited to kick off our end of the year food drive supporting both the Highline Food Bank and the Highline School District’s Project N.O.W.

Project N.O.W is a program that supports Highline Public School students in need with a free backpack full of food to take home for the weekend—all school year.

The program was started by a small team of individuals, including Highline District employees and community volunteers, who recognized the urgency in helping our students struggling with hunger.

75% of the Highline School District’s student body lives below the poverty line. Many Highline students have little-to-no food at home, are poverty-stricken, and in some cases homeless or are in transitional housing. With Project N.O.W., a weekend’s supply of food is sent home with our most vulnerable students each Friday in a backpack. The empty backpack is returned on Monday, the Highline Area Food Bank fills empty bags on Wednesdays, and the process repeats itself each week. In addition, Project N.O.W. provides Highline High School with a food pantry on site and is replenished every other week. Students can access the food throughout the week as needed and this also helps those student athletes without food at home to bring to school when they are staying at school for extended hours (practices or games).

Currently, the schools served through the Project N.O.W. program include: Highline High School, Sylvester Middle School, Gregory Heights Elementary, Seahurst Elementary, Cedarhurst Elementary, and Hilltop Elementary. CHOICE is currently in the process of setting up an onsite food pantry and our hope is to help both New Start and Evergreen High School set up their on site food pantries!

You can drop off your donation (list available here: http://conta.cc/2yJRXNS) at our office, Pollock Insurance, M-F from 8am to 5pm at 654 S. 152nd Street Burien, WA 98148 (map below).
