This weekend, 35 high school robotics teams from the Northwest will converge on Auburn High School to compete in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

Four teams hail from the Highline School District:

  • Raisbeck Aviation High School’s Skunk Works
  • Highline High School’s High Tekerz
  • Evergreen High School’s Panda Robotics
  • Mount Rainier High School’s Ramen

Opening ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday, March 17, and competition continues at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 18.

“We’ve been working really hard and we’re ready to compete. It should be a great event,” said Andy Bowlin, co-coach of Skunk Works Robotics Team 1983.

The FRC season kicked off on January 6 with the game reveal, during which a video of this year’s challenge is released. Teams had six weeks to build a robot, which is ready to compete. During build season, teams analyzed the challenge and developed game strategy, then prototyped, designed, built and programmed the robot.

FIRST was founded by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen in 1992. Its goal is to inspire young people to be innovators and leaders in science, technology and engineering through a mentor-based program. For more information on FIRST programs, visit
