The King County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday identified one of the two victims of Wednesday night’s fatal shooting in Burien as Eveona Cortez, 19.

Eveona died from multiple gunshot wounds in what police say was a gang-related shooting near the Alturas apartment complex on Ambaum Blvd. SW at SW 137th Street on Wednesday night, March 28.

Here’s a statement from Eveona’s family that was posted to Facebook:

Our daughter Eveona Cortez was killed last night to such a senseless act of violence. We are asking if anyone has any information to plz contact us. We are not about retaliation because more violence replaced with more violence is not gonna help our two girls come back. There are two families grieving here. We appreciate all of your kind words. We want our daughter remembered the way she was full of joy and life always with that beautiful smile on her face.

A Gofundme page has been created to help the family: https://www.gofundme.com/help-send-eveona-cortez-home

The second victim was a 13-year old girl who was a student at Sylvester Middle School, who has not yet been officially identified. A memorial was held for her at the school on Friday, March 30.
