Hello Elected Representatives:

The OSPI posting of the best performing schools in Washington State was just posted. Highline Schools was not in the posting. It is obvious where the monies for Best Starts for Kids should be going to. But money is not going to Highline Schools in King County or Burien kids. Why not?

The communities most impacted by Sea-Tac airport for land value loss, damaged environment, polluted air quality and citizen health issues have lots of children from low income families residing in them. Look at the free and reduced lunch rate of 69% for Highline Schools. These are the communities that should be receiving the Best Starts For Kids dollars. Why aren’t these children and youth in Burien receiving this money? Why would Bellevue and Vashon be receiving it instead?

If you believe in social, economic and educational justice why aren’t these communities that house the majority of poor and low income people in King County not getting the Lion’s Share of the Best Starts For Kids dollars? Do you really believe in and advocate for what you talk about?

The young 13-year old female youth that was just killed/murdered by gang(s) in Burien had attended a neighborhood elementary school in Burien that has a free and reduced lunch rate of 81% and has some of the lowest performing scores in the city and State of Washington. If you have any social conscience at all, Burien should get an emergency infusion of the Best Starts for Kids Money-immediately.
