This coming Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. – ChoralSounds Northwest (CSN) celebrates the Big Apple, from the Great White Way with New York Nights: from Broadway to Birdland!

ChoralSounds Northwest, VocalSounds Northwest, and the Smamblettes will perform a mix of Broadway favorites and jazz standards that will put a spring in your step. It promises to be a swingin’ good time with hits like Lullaby of Birdland as well as rarely performed choral versions of Broadway songs from Dear Evan Hansen and Once.

Also, on Saturday May 5 at 2 p.m., KidSounds, YouthSounds & TeenSounds Northwest will present a varied and fun show titled Spring is in the Air. Director Kerstin Shaffer conducts an entertaining program that includes pieces like Jabbawockey, We are the Music Makers, and Everlasting Melody; an afternoon filled with sunshine, song and smiles.

Then three weeks later, to honor the 200th birthday of French composer Charles Gounod, CSN and VocalSounds will perform his stunning piece, Messe Solennelle, as well as fellow Frenchman Gabriel Fauré’s beloved Requiem. Both pieces, performed entirely in Latin, will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

As always, all these south sound choruses from NWAA encourage families to attend with their affordable Youth Ticket Program. Parents and adults looking for a risk-free way to introduce their children to the joys of choral music can bring young guests for free. Youth under age 17 can attend for free when accompanied by a paid adult.

These Burien-based choruses are part of Northwest Associated Arts (NWAA), which has developed a loyal and growing following with family-friendly shows that offer much more than the usual “choral concert.”
