Burien’s unique and oh-so-sweet ‘Arts-a-Glow’ Lantern Festival & Procession will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Dottie Harper Park. This FREE, annual event is not to be missed, and runs from 5 – 10 p.m., with the procession beginning around 8 p.m./dusk.

NOTE: This year the lantern procession will begin in a new location – all are invited to meet at the Annex Parking Lot (look for the food trucks), just north of SW 146th Street and 4th Ave SW.
“Bring your lanterns! Dress in costume! Bring shakers and bells to play as you walk to make beautiful music!”

The forest comes alive with magic! Join us for Arts-A-Glow Lantern Festival, when Dottie Harper Park is transformed into a place where jugglers roam, acrobats bend and twist, and the trees dance in the light of lanterns. Follow us on Facebook.

Bring the kids to our FREE!!! lantern-making booth. LED tea lights, batons, and clothing will also be available for purchase from Bright Costumes. Want to make your lantern at home? We have helpful tips on how to turn jars, balloons, and pie tins into whimsical lights.

Music floats through the trees all night. The delicate sound of Jini O’Flyn’s harp will welcome all merry-makers to Dottie Harper. As the evening continues, enjoy the steady beat of drums and the call of guitar; James Whetxel and Yaw Amponsah will be playing together at the Annex. Before darkness falls, the deep tones of electric bass by Gretchen Yanover will be found on the stage immediately following Arden Fujiwara and his captivating ukulele.

At dusk (8 p.m.), gather at the Annex parking lot, on 4th betweeen 146th and 144th SW, with your lanterns and costumes for an evening procession through Burien led by the Filthy Femcorps. Don’t miss this event!
